Since we’ve opened, we’ve been dedicated to changing the lives of people one person at a time, through martial arts, education and coaching. We strive to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for all students and family members. We take pride in creating an environment for individuals to achieve, develop and succeed in their personal goals.
We strongly believe that martial arts can be for everyone, regardless of age, gender or experience levels. Throughout all of our programs, students will not only learn the necessary skill sets to protect themselves, we stand behind our realistic and practical approach, confident it will enable every member to achieve greatness and live their best life..

Black Belt 3rd Dan Freestyle Martial Arts
Sensei Chris has trained at Tring Martial Arts Academy for over 12 years. At the start of 2022 he was promoted to Chief Instructor and is now responsible for all classes, students and his very own instruction team.
Shihan Christopher Allen
Founder
Black Belt 6th Dan Freestyle Martial Arts
Shihan Christopher began training in the Martial Arts in 1983 at the age of 9. Through a lifelong passion for martial arts as both a practitioner and teacher, Shihan opened Tring Martial Arts in July 2005.
Sensei Paula Andrews
Head Instructor & Customer Services Director
Black Belt 3rd Dan
Sensei Paula enrolled herself and her 3 children into classes early in 2008 and as a family they all progressed through their training to earn black belts 5 years later. Now, Sensei Paula is our Customer Services Director and is responsible for everything that happens within the TMA office and is a members first point of call for any and all enquiries or questions.
Mitch Levene
Head Instructor
Black Belt 3rd Dan
Mitch Levene started training at Tring Martial Arts Academy in 2008, he is our longest serving student and assistant instructor. In 2024 he was promoted to the rank of Head Instructor and is now in charge of our Reality Based Self Defence classes.
Sifu Kim Fountain
Tai Chi Instructor
After more than 20 years of working with vulnerable people for the local authority, Kim Fountain seized the opportunity to utilise their training skills and share their passion with others. In addition to daily Qi Gong exercises and Neigong practice, Kim regularly completes the Wudang short and long forms. Their training also includes weapons such as the Spear (Qiang), Sabre (Xuan Xuan Dao), Sword (Qian Kun Jian) and Fan (Qian Kung Taiji), as well as moving stepping drills and pushing hands (Tuishou and San Shou). Kim’s dedication and expertise were recognised in 2017 when they became the European Silver Medallist for Wudang Hand Form.
Sifu Christian Summers
Tai Chi Instructor
Chris started learning Wudang Tai Chi Chuan in 2018 alongside his Taekwondo training and enjoyed the martial arts bias of this style. He won a bronze medal in hand form and a bronze medal in spear form in the 13th London International Competition for traditional Tai Chi Chuan in 2022 and was also awarded his teaching certificate by his sifu. He now teaches for several organisation and a mental health charity
Sensei Philip Hutchinson
Instructor
Philip has over 45 years’ experience in Martial arts of which nearly 10 years of those has been at TMA. He started in Wadru Karate and Taekwondo but most of his Martial Arts career has been in Muay Thai, where he gained his experience and expertise, both in and outside the boxing ring. Now keen to impart his experience and expertise he joins as instructor.
Instructor Training Programme
The Assistant Instructors Team are a group of talented Assistant Instructors, Coaches and Class Assistants who have received training through our in-house training called the Instructor Development Programme. This team are at the peak of their ability and are role models to those whom they help. They serve voluntarily in different classes and provide great support to the main class instructors
