SO, YOU’VE DONE ALL OF YOUR RESEARCH AND YOU HAVE DECIDED THAT MARTIAL ARTS IS THE PERFECT CLASS FOR YOUR CHILD. The next question you need to ask yourself is how often they should attend the class. Whilst the benefits of martial arts training are well known, you need to practice it often enough for those effects to be enjoyed. The starting point is at least twice per week, which is regularly enough for the benefits to be felt, without any risk of ‘burnout’. Limiting it to a couple of times of week also allows for other pastimes, which offers your child a rounded and balanced life. As important as the lessons learned at a martial class are, you still want your kid to be what they are…a kid. Likewise, your children still want their parents…to be parents. Children need leadership in their lives, parental leadership and leadership from authority figures. Someone, they can look up to, like their Sensei’s! Whilst we understand that children have so many choices, perhaps too many choices these days, there is no better activity for learning self discipline, confidence and perseverance than martial arts, but going once a week just isn’t enough. Anything worthy comes through hard-work, patience and a never give up attitude. Many, many parents enrol their child in our classes looking for these important life skills, but consistent practice over time is where the real development is achieved, after all, they go to school 5 days per week, they might not like it, but we make them attend because we know it is good for them. At Tring Martial Arts, we understand the need to take every step possible to protect the mind and body of children in our care.
